User guide
Our apps run in your web browser. You can use each one straight from its address, or install it so it opens from your home screen, dock or start menu in its own window. Installing takes a few seconds and needs no app store.
Our apps
- Scan photographs an item once and keeps it. It works without a connection and holds each capture on your phone until it can be delivered.
- Sluice turns a recording of a room or a shelf into reviewed items, and can tell you when a job is done.
- Iris shows each item found in your Sluice recordings, with every picture of it and when it was seen.
- Exchange shows what you own, what it is worth today and the best offer on it. We are letting people in a few at a time.
Install an app
Open the app’s address in your browser and choose to open the app. In Sluice and Exchange, an Install button appears at the top of the app when your browser can install it, and one tap is all it takes. Otherwise, follow the steps for your device.
- iPhone and iPad. In Safari, tap the Share button, then tap Add to Home Screen and Add. On iOS 16.4 or later this also works from Chrome and Edge.
- Android. In Chrome, tap the menu (three dots), then Install app or Add to Home screen, and confirm.
- Chrome on a computer. Click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the menu and choose Cast, save and share, then Install page as app.
- Edge on a computer. Open the menu, choose Apps, then Install this site as an app.
- Safari on a Mac. On macOS Sonoma or later, choose File, then Add to Dock.
- Firefox. Firefox on Android can install apps from its menu. On a computer, Firefox cannot install them, so use the app in a tab or open it in another browser.
Uninstall an app
Save your data first. Removing an app can also remove what it keeps on your device.
- Scan keeps each capture on the device until it is delivered. Connect and let every capture finish sending, or choose Export all data, before you remove it.
- Sluice and Exchange keep your data on our servers, so removing them loses nothing. Let any Sluice upload finish first, because closing the app stops it.
Then follow the steps for your device.
- iPhone and iPad. Touch and hold the app’s icon, tap Remove App, then confirm.
- Android. Touch and hold the icon, then tap Uninstall, or open App info and tap Uninstall there.
- Chrome on a computer. Open the app, click the menu at the top of its window and choose Uninstall. You can also type chrome://apps in the address bar, right-click the app and choose Remove from Chrome.
- Edge on a computer. Type edge://apps in the address bar, open the app’s details and choose Uninstall.
- Safari on a Mac. Open the Applications folder in your home folder and move the app to the Trash.
When something is not working
Try these in order, and check the app after each one.
- Check your connection. Open any other website. If it does not load, the problem is the network rather than the app.
- Close the app completely and open it again. On a phone, swipe it away in the app switcher. On a computer, close its window. Reopening picks up the latest version.
- Update your browser and your device. Our apps need a current browser.
- Uninstall the app and install it again, using the steps above.
- Clear the site’s data. This signs you out and removes anything the app keeps on your device, so save your data first, as described above. In Chrome, open the site, click the icon at the left of the address bar and choose Site settings, then Delete data. On an iPhone, open Settings, then Apps, Safari, Advanced, Website Data, and remove the site.
The install option is missing
- Private and incognito windows cannot install apps. Use an ordinary window.
- If the app is already installed, the browser offers to open it instead. Look for it on your home screen or in your app list.
- On an iPhone or iPad running a version older than iOS 16.4, use Safari.
The app looks out of date
An installed app updates itself the next time it starts with a connection. Close it completely and open it again. If it still shows the old version, uninstall it and install it again.
The camera, microphone or notifications do not work
If you declined the request once, your browser will not ask again, so you need to allow it yourself.
- iPhone and iPad. In Safari, tap aA in the address bar, then Website Settings, and set Camera or Microphone to Allow. For an installed app, also check Settings, then Notifications, and find the app there.
- Android and Chrome. Tap the icon at the left of the address bar, then Permissions, and allow what you need. For an installed app, also allow it in the phone’s settings for that app. Then close the app and open it again.
Still stuck?
Sluice, Scan and Exchange each have a Send feedback button (in Scan it is called Support & Feedback). Sign in with GitHub, then tell us what you did and what you saw. The app includes its version and whether it was installed, so you do not need to look those up.
